"Beauty is truth's smile when you behold your own face in a perfect mirror" - Inspired by Rabindranath Tagore

Beauty and the beast have always been deemed antagonists, but can anyone say that they have never seen a beautiful beast. Beauty is the excellence that comes from making one's values and adhering to it, sans form... sans circumstances. “Standing apart is not beauty...being a part is”. When you merge yourself with a purpose; when u exist as part and parcel of nature u gain beauty. True beauty lies in the in beholder’s eye but where we interpret it as the extraneous beholder, it is the self’s eye that is in the reference. Beauty is enigmatic for the debates it causes in scholastic circles as well as in circles of garrulous time-bidders. It has acquired a dimension and stoutly descended into the digital realm and this definitely is a thing of beauty to enjoy.

One does need a conscience to appreciate beauty in the surroundings, the primarily stems from first feeling beautiful themselves. This consciousness is what is I deem as internal beauty. A simple universal truth hitherto unsaid is “Nature can never be ugly” the corollary of which is “beauty is all pervasive”. Yes we surely need the consciousness to recognize it and when that is recognised, it is appreciated. It would hence be stated that it is one’s level of operative conscience that determines the level of beauty recognition which in turn determines the level of inner beauty.

Let’s get down to brass tacks leaving this higher plane of philosophical indulgence. Where and how does beauty affect our lives? When a thirsty man is served chilled water in a crystal goblet he appreciates the beauty of water and not of the goblet. A noble inculcated with opulence will develop a thirst if served spring water in a rustic utensil. Do we notice the undertones? What we call beauty here is circumstantial and it has a form. This is not the inner beauty we are trying to unearth. A baby who has still not entered the realms of knowledge...does it appreciate beauty? The baby does recognize the warmth of its mother and the appeasement from her feed. This is an innate behaviour and what’s beautiful here is the bonding, not the mother for being motherly or the baby for being cute. The bonding comes from within and though both the mother and the baby will not appreciate it a third eye definitely does. Yes a slightly enlightened eye.

On ground the not so enlightened eye will be enamored by various forms and circumstances that will be termed beautiful. A compelling stroke from an accomplished batter, an accurately detailed sculpture, a color riot on canvas that hits the senses, a blooming field set across a pristine environ, a captivating structural set across a panorama, the vastness of the universe, a healing touch of a dedicated nurse, an invigorating kiss of lover, a perfect crime by a delinquent and a multitude of others.

There are many components to beauty, an alluring damsel, the crimson splash of the eastern dawn, the tender resplendent waves washing ashore gleaming moonlight, a tender hand reaching out to the sky, the idyllic whispering whistle escaping the nimble lips of a seasoned farmer; any of these, all of these are as you perceive built upon layers of stimuli to which our rational responds as beautiful and hopefully to the verses above too. The concept of beauty is therefore a summation of many tiny responses which surpasses a threshold to signify beauty. Beauty is not limited to gender, age, caste, class, It’s more to do with what we are made by our creator. We are all made and crafted beautiful and more important to this is the inner beauty which according to me is what we ought to do, what we ought to be in order to fulfil the sole purpose of us being created.

One needs to be in resonant synergy with these stimuli components and thus be able to take into cognizance their nuances, to value and appreciate beauty.

This appreciation as such is innate in some and can be acquired as a learned skill in others but, the key factor is that one needs to posses this basic knowledge to explore the domain of beauty. I will not condescend into a term real beauty as it has no opposition like artificial, fake or inferior beauty. Thus beauty needs no adjective to qualify it. It just needs an effective perceiver. Let me hasten to caution that the perceiver does not qualify or quantify the object of beauty and merely is a standalone observer. Nothing can be accrued to or weaned away from the beauty.

Real beauty lies within. It is deep rooted in our souls, the values we hold, the thoughts we carry and the deeds we do. Being true to your conscience is beautiful; gratitude towards a helping hand is beautiful. Being true to yourself and fellow humans is yet another ingredient of inner beauty. The body dies, glow fades away but the deeds we do would make a lasting impression on people’s life yet making it possible for us to be remembered. The inner beauty never escapes the discerning eye which never seeks beauty as a reward but beauty as the existing to which purposefulness needs to be attached. Don’t let me into persuading you that either dove or yahoo or I will bring forth your appreciation. It is you who have to do it and you are beautiful because you do it.
